Facebook may not be the first social media platform but it’s certainly the one that represents the social media era and the only one that has been turned into a movie.
Whether like it or not, Facebook is going to celebrate its 10 years of growth this February, a complete decade of social media networking. Unlike what naysayers used to say about it, Facebook has successfully turned a dorm-room project 10 years ago into a platform where more than 1 billion people around the world connect and communicate.
There were ups and downs in the history of Facebook development before it became the world’s leading social network today. Our friends at DPFOC, an Irish marketing firm, have put together a 10 years of Facebook infographic covering some remarkable milestones Facebook has achieved during the last 10 years in an interesting timeline format.
From the very first day of its inception in 2004, Facebook has been a phenomenon, growing from 1 million users to 6 million in 2005. And it has completely evolved since then. Over the past 10 years, many new features and interface changes have been added to the site.
One of the most effective features that Facebook has announced is the Ads platform where businesses of all types and sizes can reach out to their targeted audiences at a fraction of the cost. This channel, first appeared in November 2007 is also a massive source of revenue of Facebook.
Although new changes to Facebook site are not always welcomed, Facebook still has a place in the heart of social network users around the globe. And as a result, it reached 1,000 million users in October 2012, becoming the most popular social networking site in the world and joined the Fortune 500 list in May 2013.
The infographic also reveals the most active countries on Facebook in 2013 which is pretty much helpful for business owners and marketing executives to define where and how to connect with their audiences on social networks.
Besides exploring 10 year history of Facebook’s success story, this infographic also addresses some interesting statistics around Facebook growth and its revenue. An interesting comparison between Facebook and another well-known social network – Twitter is also covered in this infographic.
